Send any captured email to a real inbox

Sometimes you need to see exactly how an email renders in a real inbox. LocalMail.dev captures the email locally first, and then lets you forward it to any SMTP server at any time, without modifying your application code or disabling your local mail catcher.

The Resend modal lets you configure a host, port, and optional username and password. The original email, with all its headers and attachments intact, is forwarded to the server you specify. Useful for final rendering checks, deliverability tests, or sharing a preview with a colleague.

LocalMail.dev detects common providers automatically. When you type a Gmail host, it reminds you to use an app password and links directly to your Google Account settings so you do not need to look it up.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resend a locally captured email to a real SMTP server?

Open the email in LocalMail.dev and click the Resend button in the toolbar. Enter your SMTP host, port, and optional credentials, then click Send. LocalMail.dev forwards the original email to the specified server without you needing to trigger a new send from your application.

Does the SMTP resend feature support authentication?

Yes. The resend modal accepts a username and password for SMTP authentication. Both fields are optional for servers that do not require credentials. For Gmail, LocalMail.dev shows a prompt reminding you to use an app password rather than your account password.

Can I use the resend feature with Gmail?

Yes. Set the SMTP host to smtp.gmail.com and port to 587. Use your Gmail address as the username and a Google App Password as the password. LocalMail.dev detects Gmail automatically and shows a reminder with a link to the App Passwords page in your Google Account.

What is the difference between resend and replay in LocalMail.dev?

Resend forwards the email to an external SMTP server such as Gmail or SendGrid. Replay sends the email back through the local SMTP server so your application receives it as if it were a new incoming message. They serve different debugging purposes.
